NordicWalkin – Lyon: the best of the capital of Gaul by walkingOctober 4, 2018
Some 2,500 participants are expected for the 3rd edition of this great gathering of Nordic urban walking unique in France, on October 13th and 14th. A sportive and festive hike, which follows four routes through the emblematic places of Lyon.
Lyon does not stop talking about going. And it is not only thanks to Gerard Collomb who resigned from the Ministry of the Interior to recover his chair of mayor. The Cité des Gaules celebrates this year the 20th anniversary of its UNESCO World Heritage listing and its most beautiful sites will be the scene of a monumental Nordic March, the weekend of 13 and 14 October.
Old Lyon, Cathedral St Jean, Place Bellecour, the banks of the Rhone and Saone, Park Gerland. But also the traboules, the ancient theaters, the Fourvière hill and the Croix-Rousse: these emblematic places of Lyon punctuate the routes of the third edition of the NordicWalkin’Lyon, urban Nordic walking gathering unique in France.
“I wanted to duplicate marathons and half-marathons in Nordic walking in the city. We were inspired by what exists in Venice, where there is a Nordic walk, “says Annabel Lascar Kam, General Manager of NordicWalkin’Lyon, which she launched three years ago in her father’s hometown, the illustrious Henry Kam, co-founder of the Great Odyssey Savoie Mont-Blanc with the adventurer Nicolas Vanier, disappeared last December. Annabel Lascar Kam also modeled the event on the model of the EuroNordicWalk, which has existed for seven years in the Vercors and which, he reproduces the Foulée Blanche, without the cross-country skis, but with the sticks.
“It’s not a race. There is no timer on arrival. It’s a leisure hike for sport, health and conviviality, “says Annabel Lascar Kam. Three routes of 7, 12, 16 or 20 kilometers are proposed. A dozen federations, including those of athletics, hiking and cardiology, support this gathering which attracted 70% of women last year.
“It’s very feminine because it looks a lot like fitness, with a warm-up ritual and stretching before and after the walk,” argues Annabel Lascar Kam. In Lyon the coaches will be there to indicate the right movements to do with the specific walking sticks. Real tools, these sticks on which we rely, we push to lengthen the pace, propel, gain amplitude, making us work “80% of the muscles of the body”. The top takes for his rank.
The discipline, appeared in Finland in the 1930s, is now emulated everywhere in Europe. In France, it has become a real social phenomenon. The objective of the 2,500 participants expected in Lyon is about to be reached. After Lyon, Annabel Lascar Kam aims in Paris.
